I have to admit, I am a huge fan of vintage Tokai guitars, and I am not alone. Prices have been going up and up for years and mint early examples are fetching some serious money now!

This one started life in 1984, the goldstar model, being based on a '62 Strat with rosewood board and vintage saddles, slimmer neck without the skunk strip inlay for the truss rod.
We have had this one on the bench and here are the mod we found.
Overall I think the black original finish has been blown over as it looks like a refin in places. The single coils are vintage grey bobbins and the bridge pickup is a Seymour Duncan little 59. The pots look original. A grounding plate has been fitted under the electrics and copper shielding on the back of the single coils. The saddles are Fender ones. It has been wired so that the neck and middle share the middle pot and the bridge has its own tone on the pot nearest the jack.
The maple has some lovely flaming and the rosewood is proper "old school" qualty.

Now if you are a collector, this is not the Tokai for you. This one is 100% aimed at being a players guitar. The neck is a dream to play, wider frets with some wear, but not needing any work now or for a good few years. The pickups are great and a good vintage tonal range from the singles, plus a bit of power from the humbucker.

There are marks and swirls on the body from use, Fender might call it roadworn and bump the price up, I say, its been played and enjoyed and deserves a new home,a nd is priced to reflect its current condition.
