There is endless debate about good and bad years and eras for Gibson production, this 1980 standard is when Norlin had got their act together, following some oddballs made in the early 70's.

As you can see this example is not a mint "hang on the wall" guitar, but a players dream with an incredible sack of vintage guitar mojo, all 100% genuine wear from use and also from what we can see 100% original parts too.
The pickups are stamped within 3 days of each other in July 1980, and the pots '79. The plastic parts and logo have darkened from pub use for many years, the nitro worn through on the neck edged, it has the look the Murphy Labs aim for.
Typical of this era the frets are flat and low, a fretless wonder you could well say, but for all the wear it plays like a dream with no choking.
It is currently set to 1.5mm at the 12th fret on the low E, with Ernie Ball Ultras (10/11 hybrid)
The original case is knackered to be honest, the top cracked across it, but obviously it is included.

To put this into perspective, a new Murphy Labs aged LP standard will set you back £7,500, that being a replica of a vintage Les Paul. This however is the real thing, an actual vintage Gibson with natural age related wear, and still a fabulous guitar.
The value of these vintage Gibsons are steadily increasing, whereas many modern very expensive models drop in value quite steeply, and it may be a couple of decades before they start climbing.

Now 50% of modern players are put off by weight, and while Gibson Les Pauls have fluctuated around the 10lb mark for 60 years, some folk now feel they are too heavy to play. This one tips the scale a touch over 11lb. In honesty with the right strap (wide and padded) this is a perfect gigging LP, but if you are very slight built or have serious back issues it may be a strain for you.
