1979 was possibly the most unpredictable year for Fender with regards to quality control, and over my many years I have seen good, fair and very bad examples from this period. Quite a lot of '79s have a thick "U" profile neck, and weigh in excess of 10lb making them vintage but not the best thing to play.
This particularly clean example is a bit of an exception, it weighs in at 9lb exactly, ok that is on the heavy end of the Strat scale but not typical '79. The neck.....now this might be disputed or certainly raise some questions, but having dealt with these guitar for over 4 decades I have a good idea of neck shapes from the 70's as they changed vastly over this period. While this one is stamped 1979 I would put money on it being a 75/76 neck as it is much slimmer than the 79s are known to be. This is also very feasible as stock rotation was famously terrible during the CBS era and many a Fender left the factory with body and neck being made years apart. Whatever you think on this the year is not so important, but the fact it is a stunning easy neck is important, as it elevates this above many others. Add to that the lovely condition and you realise this is a "proper good one"! As far as we can see this is 100% original, all electrics & hardware are spot on.
