This is a very tidy "combo", a '62 reissue Burns Bison in a period correct reissue silver "croc" Burns hard case. Both are in very good condition indeed as you can see in the pictures.
The Bison is a truly unique retro UK design with a huge array of tonal options, typical of the era. and styling that unlike a Stratocaster...has not beed copied that often!
Asides the master volume and tone, the switching is like this.....
- Mode A: Standard, full-bodied tones (when applicable).
- Mode B: Treble-heavy, "out-of-phase," or scooped mid-tone variations (often highly specific to the selected 4-way position).
- Position 1 (Split Sound): Combines the bass half of the neck pickup with the treble half of the bridge pickup. This gives a uniquely clear tone that keeps the low strings thumpy without muddying the higher, sparkling strings.
- Position 2 (Bass / Jazz): Activates the neck pickup for a deep, warm, and rich tone.
- Position 3 (Treble): Activates the bridge pickup exclusively, delivering a bright, biting, and percussive sound.
- Position 4 (Wild Dog): A famous Burns signature setting. It usually connects the bridge and middle pickups completely out of phase, creating a heavily hollowed, quacky, and almost synthesizer-like tone.
